How we know a service is down

How it works →
  • Working

No more reports than usual for this service, and our server opens the site.

  • Possible problems

3+ reports an hour and twice the usual, or the site doesn’t respond for 10 minutes.

  • Outage

8+ reports an hour and 4 times the usual, or the site doesn’t respond for 15 minutes.

  1. User reports

One tap, no sign-up. We count one report per service per device every 30 minutes, so an outage can’t be faked by mashing the button.

  2. Our own check every 5 minutes

The Awe Status server opens the sites on our list itself. If a site stays silent for 15 minutes, you see it right away, even before anyone reports.

  3. Compared to a normal day

A big service gets a dozen reports an hour: that’s background noise. We call it an outage when reports jump to 4 times the usual level for that service. Red here means a real outage.

Questions and answers

How do I know if a site is down for everyone or just me?

Open the service page. If there are far more reports than usual or our check can’t open the site, the problem is on the service side. If reports are low and the site opens, it’s more likely your internet, VPN, browser or app.

Where does the data come from?

Two sources: reports from Awe Status visitors and our own check, which opens the sites on our list every 5 minutes. We don’t repost other status pages or social media.

Why does the site open for you but not for me?

Our server is in Helsinki. A site can open from Europe and still fail at your provider, in your city or in the app. That’s why service pages offer a check from 6 countries and show reports by country.

Can I report any website?

Yes. Enter the address and the page appears with the first report. We check that the domain actually exists first.

Do you collect personal data?

No. To block fake reports we keep an anonymous device fingerprint and never store IP addresses. Country and city come from Cloudflare’s network data, we never know an exact location.
